Specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery
Director of Plastic Surgery Unit | Ospedale del Mare, Naples"Every treatment stems from careful personalized evaluation, with the goal of offering effective, safe solutions aimed at aesthetic improvement and overall patient well-being."
Dr. Borriello's approach to plastic surgery is founded on the belief that every patient is unique. Before any procedure, he dedicates time to listening to needs and expectations, to build a personalized path that respects the natural harmony of the body and face.
Dr. Borriello has directed the Plastic Surgery Unit at Ospedale del Mare in Naples since 2020, where he leads a team specialized in treating reconstructive pathologies, congenital malformations, and complex trauma. Previously, from 2007 to 2020, he directed the Plastic Surgery department at Ospedale Pellegrini, where approximately 70% of procedures involved post-tumor reconstructions in collaboration with oncologists and breast specialists. He has served as a medical director in the Plastic Surgery Unit since March 1992.
He graduated with honors (110/110) in Medicine and Surgery from Federico II University of Naples in 1987, where he subsequently completed his specialization in Plastic Surgery with top marks (70/70) in 1995. This training has allowed him to build solid foundations in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, with an approach that integrates both disciplines.
One of his main areas of interest is Regenerative Medicine: he uses platelet growth factors (PRP) and adipose stem cells to accelerate tissue healing and improve aesthetic results. These techniques, born from hospital experience in burn care, now find application in lipofilling and skin rejuvenation.
His international training began in 1994 with a fellowship at Hospital Gea Gonzalez in Mexico City with Prof. Monasterio and at the Reconstructive Surgery Institute of Jalisco (Prof. Guerrerosantos). In the same year and in 1998, he completed two clinical internships at the Manhattan Eye-Ear-Throat Hospital in New York. In 1999-2000, he served as a volunteer assistant to Prof. Baroudi at Hospital Saint Paul in São Paulo, Brazil.
The year 2000 marked a turning point in his career: he worked at the Santa Casa della Misericordia in Rio de Janeiro, in the department directed by Prof. Ivo Pitanguy, considered the father of modern plastic surgery. From him he learned refined techniques for face and body rejuvenation, but above all the philosophy of surgery that respects natural harmony and each patient's individuality.
The Brazilian experience continued in Curitiba (2001-2002), where he deepened reconstructive surgery at the Evangelical Hospital, specializing in treating malformations and complex trauma. He completed his international training at the University of Lausanne, the University of Birmingham, and New York University, acquiring a global vision of the most advanced techniques in Europe and the United States. In 2008-2009, he obtained a Second Level Master's in "Clinical and Economic Governance in Healthcare" from the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
Breast surgery represents one of the pillars of his practice. He performs breast augmentation with latest-generation implants, breast reduction for mammary hypertrophy, and mastopexy for lifting ptotic breasts. He collaborates consistently with Breast Units for breast reconstruction after oncological procedures, using techniques with implants, autologous flaps, and lipofilling.
Rhinoplasty is another area of particular expertise. He performs both aesthetic and functional procedures, often combined with septoplasty to correct septal deviations and improve breathing. He uses both open and closed techniques, choosing the most suitable approach for each case to achieve natural results that enhance individual facial features.
Completing his specialization is Body Contouring: traditional and assisted liposuction, abdominoplasty with rectus diastasis repair, and post-bariatric surgery for patients who have lost significant weight. He also performs face and neck lifts, blepharoplasty, and otoplasty, always with the goal of harmonious and natural results.
He teaches at the Plastic Surgery Specialization School of the University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli", where he trains new generations of plastic surgeons. His teaching covers both traditional surgical techniques and the most innovative ones, from reconstructive microsurgery to minimally invasive aesthetic procedures.
For over thirteen years he has organized and directed IBAM, the International Plastic Surgery Course held annually in Naples. Each edition addresses specific topics: from facial rejuvenation to complications in plastic surgery, from Brazilian techniques to body contouring. The course has hosted speakers from France, Brazil, the United States, and other countries, creating an important moment of international exchange.
He has published approximately forty articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and regularly participates in national and international conferences as a speaker. In 2003, he served as an international lecturer at the 5th National Congress of Videoendoscopic Surgery of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery, and in 2011 at the National Congress of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery. He is a full member of SICPRE (Italian Society of Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery), AICPE (Italian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery), ISAPS (International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery), and SBCP (Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery).
Over the years he has been consulted as a plastic surgery expert by national television programs such as Mattino Cinque (Mediaset) and TG1 Medicina (RAI), as well as Radio Montecarlo and TGR Campania. His appearances have been covered by outlets including Il Mattino, Corriere del Mezzogiorno, La Repubblica, La Stampa, and various industry magazines.
He has addressed topics relevant to the public: in 2012 the PIP breast implant scandal and risks for patients; in 2014 the dangers of low-cost cosmetic surgery, highlighting how one-third of procedures serve to correct previous errors; in 2015 minimally invasive lifting techniques with absorbable threads for facial rejuvenation.
He considers medical outreach to be of fundamental value: correctly informing the public helps people distinguish qualified professionals from improvised operators, and make informed decisions for their health and well-being.
He sees private patients in a well-equipped office in the heart of Naples, on Viale Gramsci. The first consultation is a fundamental moment of the journey: he examines the clinical history, evaluates anatomical conditions, discusses expectations, and explains in detail the available options, realistically achievable results, recovery times, and possible risks of each procedure.
He prefers to decline a procedure rather than promise unrealistic results or proceed when the patient's motivations are not appropriate. As he has always maintained in interviews: "There is no aesthetic surgeon, but specialists in plastic surgery with a long training path". His goal is to help each patient achieve concrete improvement, respecting natural harmony and individual characteristics.
