Mini Thread Lifting: Remove Wrinkles Without the Scalpel

When gravity strikes, aesthetics responds. Recently, however, it is possible to restore youthful tone to the face without resorting to the scalpel, thanks to a minimally invasive treatment: the mini thread lifting.

The Evolution of Traction Threads

Actually, traction threads are not new, since they have been used in aesthetics for about fifteen years, but today they are made of new and innovative materials. From the very first ones, in polypropylene and non-absorbable, permanent and fishbone-shaped, inserted through a guide needle immediately removed, we moved to different and absorbable materials, also fishbone-shaped and with an even longer tissue tensioning effect.

Subsequently, the guide needles were modified, curved and no longer straight. The latest innovation, the mini thread lifting in fact, uses very thin threads, inserted through multiple needles, which stimulate thanks to the creation of a true support network.

No scars and the tone of your twenties guaranteed. The only downside, the treatment must be repeated because the effect doesn't last more than a couple of years, but costs are minimal compared to surgery and sessions are short.

How It Works

"The threads restore, through traction, the facial contour lines that have been lost due to the reduction of the fat and connective component of facial skin - explains Alfredo Borriello, plastic surgeon and head of the Plastic Surgery Operating Unit at Pellegrini Hospital in Naples - The treatment is outpatient and requires only local anesthesia in the thread entry and exit zones. Before treatment, in agreement with the patient, drawings of the areas to be treated are made. At these points a thread with a very thin double needle will be introduced."

Applications Throughout the Body

"These threads were created for facial treatment but can be used in multiple body districts such as neck, breast, arms and buttocks - continues Borriello - There are also longer threads with more traction cones for treating larger areas such as thighs and buttocks."

  • Face (main application)
  • Neck
  • Breast
  • Arms
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs

Safety and Contraindications

No side effects have been reported. There are no particular contraindications since the material is identical to the products used to make suture threads normally employed. In people who more easily experience small hematomas, the treatment is preceded by a course of drugs to reduce the risk.

Duration and Costs

Absorption occurs between 18 and 24 months, but considering the use of threads together with fillers and botulinum, one can think of booster treatments at one year to have constant maintenance of the state for over two years.

The minimally invasive procedure costs from 300 to 600 euros per session.
